A No Trump Bid
Jun. 30th, 2016 08:45 amI am not a Hillary hater. She has two of the endemic flaws of American politics: She has made friends with the Mammon of unrighteousness, and she believes in that wonderful idea of America charging into Asia and fixing things that has served us so well in the past. Nevertheless, there are reasons for voting for her besides her not being a tiny-fingered, Cheeto-faced, ferret-wearing shitgibbon.
She is a politician, which is not the most excellent thing for a person to be, but saying, “I’ll vote for him because he’s not a politician,” is not unlike “I want him to operate on me because he’s not a doctor.” She seems to be basically a liberal. It’s past time for a woman president. I’m not wildly enthusiastic, but I think there are good things about her, and I would fairly cheerfully vote for her if she were running against a sad, rather than rabid, Republican.

Nov. 6th, 2014 05:31 amThe president still seems to believe that unmoored anger is not really a force in politics. Once again, the electorate showed him how wrong he was. The president still seems to believe that calculated vengeance is not really a force in politics. Once again, the electorate showed him how wrong he was. The president still seems to believe that covert (and not so covert) racism is not really a force in politics. Or he believes he has the personal and political skills to overcome all of them with the strength of his personal narrative. Fundamentally, that's the hill he would have his administration die on. Once again, the electorate showed him how wrong he was--Charlie Pierce (Read the whole thing)
With the election a day off, I hereby endorse my old pal Sean Haugh, the libertarian candidate for the Senate in North Carolina. I will be happy if he wins, assuming he will. (I said he was a libertarian, didn't I?) I will also be happy if he naderizes the Republicans. Come to think of it, I hope a lot of libertarians and other third party candidates do so.
