The Dragon Awards were set up so that pupfic would win on its merits, and also because people would vote for it to defend sci-fi from those *euww-ick* SJWs. That would have worked about as well as contradictions in terms generally do, but then they added a rule forbidding nominees from withdrawing from the ballot, thereby making sure that they are personally defeated. I don’t know how much mean-spirited pleasure can be gained from winning over candidates who have announced that they don’t want the award and will have a representative at the con so that in the unlikely eventuality that they do win, the committee can be instructed to stick the award where the sun, moon, and stars don’t shine.

How Joe Orton & Kenneth Halliwell vandalized library books. It’s not just a gay thing; Philip Larkin & Monica Jones did likewise, but perhaps because Larkin was a librarian, they used their own copies.

Thanx to Metafilter

“Under Pope Francis, the church has abandoned many of its bedrock positions on issues like divorce and homosexuality in favor of a "why not?" attitude. Francis has scolded people for being rich, sided with illegal immigrants, and suggested the church should be a refuge for the poor”–John Moody, Fox News VP

I thought Queen Elizabeth was trying to do what Great-Granny couldn’t: outlive her idiot son. Turns out she doesn’t have to.

ETA: Looks like she can’t do it after all. The United Kingdom is still faced with the prospect of a Royal Homeopath.
