Feb. 16th, 2010 02:08 pmPaul Krugman reports:
Senate Republicans are resisting a fundamental tenet of the Obama administration’s financial regulatory reforms in another obstacle for the stalled legislative process. As many of you know, I started out as a liberal, flirted with libertarianism in the 70s, and in Churchill's eloquent phrase, reratted to the liberals. Through all of that, I have loved the First Amendment, hated the war on some drugs, and thought what those Republicans are doing is the worst sort of statist crap.
Several aides from both parties involved in reform negotiations told the Financial Times that Republicans had opposed in private a plan to impose tougher capital and liquidity requirements on companies that posed a risk to the financial system.
