50 years ago a shitty little ditty told “gentle people” to go to San Francisco with flowers in their hair. San Francisco, unsurprisingly, didn’t want them and didn’t do much for them, and those who prey on gentle people had been told where to find a whole bunch of them. Most of what was good about the hippy thing was stomped into the ground. Says here it also gave us the Religious Right.
