The Realist once did a crossword puzzle. The definition for 1 Across was “Drunk driver association,” and the answer was “AAAAA.” In the last two days I had to deal with two organizations whose initials added up to that, and they both showed such intelligence that if they were people, they would flip burgers for a living and think Donald Trump loved them because they were white.

1. We flew round trip on American Airlines and offered to bumped to a later flight, which turned out not to be necessary. Because we did that, they canceled our reservations back without telling us, and we had to go through two rounds of bureaucracy to get back on.

2. I just called AAA. They would not proceed until I told them the year of the car, as well as make and model, then when I wanted to turn down a couple of offered services, they insisted that I listed to the entirety of both offers. (Admittedly, even combined, they were shorter than John Galt’s soliloquy.)

Always headline the man-bites-dog aspect of a story. John Scalzi notes that Barnes & Noble searches for him bring up cut-&-pastes of Wikipedia articles ahead of his books.
