Facebook acts like Facebook again
Dec. 25th, 2011 07:13 amThe 21st-century AOL has just acted stupidly towards Patrick Nielsen Hayden. Facebook wants its users to believe that everyone uses their real name and friends only people they really know. But the former could not be enforced without Homeland Security-like measures, and the latter conflicts with their goal of maximizing interaction so they have a really huge product to sell to advertisers. They thus want to be seen to be enforcing the rules, which leads to at least as many problems as wanting to enforce the rules.
