I have also heard that the pre-launch countdown came directly from Fritz Lang's Woman in the Moon (which is seriously worth a watch, if you haven't seen it before), although that seems like wishful thinking, since it was probably forgotten in popular memory by the time we were launching shit into space. Maybe. Although they did try to make the film as scientifically accurate as possible. Gorgeous sci-fi.
