I love livejournal. I joined it six and a half years ago and met all sorts of interesting people, and was inspired to write more. Even when it does something stupid, like forbidding "incest" and interest and (more frequently) when it does something sensible and explains it stupidly, I remain loyal.

This year, enough of the people in lj whom I like joined Dreamwidth that I decided to join that, while staying in lj. (Hey, I'm poly.) I do all my posts (except for the birthday ones) in Dreamwidth first because they automatically copy to lj.

So this morning I did that and found a note at the bottom of the lj version telling people to comment on Dreamwidth via OpenID. (At least they didn't make it impossible to comment directly.) Screw that. When I post to lj, I want people to be able to comment to lj. (I deleted the offending words.)

There's an option on the cross-post page that you can turn off which disables comments on the cross-posted copies.

Try here: http://www.dreamwidth.org/manage/settings/?cat=othersites

Or else it's somehow because they added an option to change the text about cross posting & OpenID, and maybe your settings got borked. All those options are on the same page.

It looks like you're supposed to be able to specify whether anything appears and if so what, and the default should be your previous setting - but something got broken and they're jiggling it: http://dw-maintenance.dreamwidth.org/9979.html?thread=246523#t246523

I'm so glad you mentioned this, because I specifically disabled that "functionality" in my crossposts, and after your post, I went and checked, and it was ostensibly still disabled, but my new LJ crossposts were showing the obnoxious footer. Grr.

It got broken in the last code push and should now have been fixed - if it's still not doing what you want it to, open a Support request and someone can have a look at it.

So did I, but I "fixed" it by turning it on (it thought it was off), then turning it off again.

Thank you for clarifying what you're doing.

I may have to try this posting-from-DW thing.
