In the One Simple Explanation Derby for the Arizona shootings, we've seen lots of arguments for HATE RHETORIC and GUNS. Now E. Fuller Torrey weighs in for the MENTAL ILLNESS panchreston. Torrey started out almost Laingian (see The Mind Game or The Death of Psychiatry, if you can find them) but then decided that schizophrenia is a real illness caused by (I am not making this up) cat poop. So much for all those people who've pointed out that mental illness is much more likely to incapacitate people than make them do Bad Things.

There does seem to be a relationship between toxoplasmosis and schizophrenia (as well as a bunch of other odd things), but there's nothing provably causal:
