Thoughts on the Super Bowl

1. My two longtime low-rent interests—science fiction and pro football—have not profited from becoming mass-market faves. I miss the Super Bowls that were played at 1:00 with only the usual number of commercials.
2. If one of them had to win it this year, I'm glad it was Brady and not Evil Little Bill.
3. It wasn’t as bad as Rams-Patsies a few years ago.
4. The flag kissing seemed less militaristic this year. Be grateful for small favors
5. But I’m glad I never wanted to buy a Jeep.
6. The two old-white-guy head coaches should retire and turn their teams over to their offensive coordinators.

"I miss the Super Bowls that were played at 1:00"

At the risk of sounding like an AOL user, me too!
Not least because, being in a time zone that's EST +05:00, it might mean being able to watch the game without losing a night's sleep.
In my 20s, staying up for the Super Bowl was part of what made it special (along with the cold pizza as the dawn broke).
In my 50s, not so much.

It was very much not a game for the ages, but since I was rooting for not-the-Chiefs, I was happy.

And honestly, it's kind of cool that the first time in 55 years a team gets to play on its home turf for a Super Bowl, it wins.
