I actually knew that, but I don't think the more obvious education components should be sold short either. When I was a pre-schooler my mother plonked me in front of British school TV every day while she cleaned the house, and I was still remembering and recognizing things 6 years later. It's amazing how TV can grab a kid's attention and stuff really penetrates. Who knows how much Sesame Street has helped with counting and letters and things; it's hard to measure because there is now greater access to pre-school, but I'm sure it's helped kids feel more confident when they start school.
