For years Paul Ryan would produce large, impressive-looking financial plans, and the Very Serious People would say how wonderful it is that we have such an intelligent conservative. Then Paul Krugman would actually read the things and tell us wherein they made no sense. The public has caught up with Krugman (Ryan now has a 12% favorability rating.) Have the Very Serious People? I have no idea why anyone ever took Ryan seriously at his policy-wonk cosplay.

Iz that he made wonderful and colorful PowerPoint presentations with real colorful graphic pamphlets and handouts. Everybody knows that math is hard!

But he looks so earnest and wholesome, who wouldn't want to just pinch those rosy cheeks of his? How could you not hang on his every last word and praise Ayn Rand for his (merciless) existence?

I really couldn't stand the guy more if I tried.

Because he espoused ideas that sounded good to a certain flavor of conservatism? If he's in a position of power and wants what you want, it must all be good! (Existing practicalities and previous research don't count; surely the right kind of research would verify the wonderfulness of these ideas!)
