Sports bras: threat or menace?

At Rowan University, a group of man-hating unfeminists (the kind who believe that boys of all ages are incontinent beasts incapable of dealing with the awareness that many women have mammary glands) forbade the women’s cross-country team from practicing in sports bras (you know, sports bras, like bikini tops only much less revealing). The school may since have had a collective rush of brains to the head over this issue. [Odyssey]

No one thinks less of men than anti-feminists. As a stalwart feminist, I think men are strong and capable enough to resist their base urges even at the sight of a woman's bare stomach. I think men are adults. They don't.

And something far more comfortable for performance sport than either a 'normal' bra or none at all.

Having played representative badminton while mine were developing and sore I know, trust me, which I preferred!

Oh, good grief. Someone (a woman, probably) needs to tell that bunch to get their heads out of their collective asses.

Alas, I doubt they'd listen to a woman. Increasingly I've been finding that one of the roles of an ally is to be someone whom an oppressor is not inclined to ignore for demographic reasons, who can then say to the oppressor what the oppressed would say if they would be listened to.

But/and I think it's going to take a man, probably one with authority, to tell these nimnuls exactly how they're being sexist and to stop it, as they look disinclined to view women as anything other than curvy bodies. This pattern happens a lot across bigotries.
