Strikes me as not very accurate."Nerd" and "geek" were reclaimed decades ago; yes, there's a division in America over recognition of that, but there's also a division over rap "music". And over "Agent Orange". And we Brits have been mocking "boffins" and "eggheads" for ages ... at least since they got out of being called up in WW2 to perform often less than stellar intellectual services instead. And the French and Russians are justifiably lampooned for their love affair with obscurantist philosophers. Also, in trying to characterize the French, the author touches on some of the rich vocabulary in English for a dope, a twit, someone dumb as a rock and thick as two short planks ... English has a lot of colloquialisms for a lot of things.

American politics and crazy like a fox are different things.
