Didn't you link a year or so ago to an article by an actual advertiser pointing out that advertisers didn't used to do this crap precisely because it infuriates potential customers?

Almost all the news sites now give me an autoplaying video at the top that also appears over the right-hand edge of the text as I scroll down. It's especially maddening because I can't hear the sound, and many of them are just talking heads. But I'd assumed somebody must like this feature, because it's so pervasive - maybe all those folks constantly browsing the internet with their phones. It's news to me that others hate it, too. Why on earth do newspapers do that? CNN, I understand - they are primarily a video outfit.
