I have really mixed feelings about what Mr. Brin has to say. I can't say I agree with him on all aspects.
One thing I do agree with is improving the infrastructure of the internet. I have said for 40 years that the smart thing for small towns to do is create connections that would allow tech guys to work from a home in rural America. If you gave them a high speed pipe to the computer world they could raise their children in the peaceful and safe environment of rural America
I'm a city girl by heart and "urban" aka Criminal and Dangerous according to contemporary American attitudes about my skin color, so I don't know if I can judge the usefulness of this advice. But I did cheer at "But I will no longer sigh and accept when I am told the urban and educated are less moral."
I think his idea fails because the main wingnut goal is ripping off the public treasury by giving public money to Republican donors and his plan seems not to support that.
