Congrats to Neil Gaiman, Nancy Kress,* Elizabeth Bear,* and Ted Chiang. And to David Hartwell, Frank Wu, and Cheryl Morgan, congrats and thanks for pulling out of next year's awards; winning a few (or only one) of the "body of work" awards and quitting is an idea whose time has come. To me, the best Hugo news is the continuation of the Semiprozine award, and I'd like to congratulate Weird Tales. Somehow I don't think of the Semiprozine award as a sacred historical treasure that is betrayed and pissed on when a goddam cross-dressing fictionzine wins it.

*Some people proposed adding a female nominee to each Hugo fiction category because women can't make it on their own don't have a fair chance at the awards.

I am sure that The Graveyard Book is excellent, but for some people, the same book winning the Hugo and the Newberry will be all they know and all they need to know about sf.

The concern that Barack Obama is a space alien who is preparing to feed all Americans to his fellow monsters appears to be unfounded.

People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn't have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless
