I have always liked rats; smart, dedicated to their families, and endlessly watchable. While I won't attempt to make friends with alley rats (I suspect they'd appreciate my decision), I admire them. Domesticated rats as pets? I imagine the only thing I'd hate are their relatively short lives. (That last said as I'm still reeling from the loss of one of my cats, and he lived to be 14.)
