I had free school lunch all the way through, and sometimes it was my only meal of the day. My kids went to a grade school so poor that rather than do the paperwork, they all got free breakfast and lunch. Why won't we just feed the kids no matter what? Punishing kids for the failures of the parents doesn't improve parenting, it just worsens the lives of children who have bad parents.

The "everyone gets the free lunch" is an option in school districts where enough children are living at homes below the poverty line - they simply allow all students to get the lunch free. It's a good idea, I think
