It is like an eternal recurrence. The Republicans, with their simple childlike faith in the Market, deregulate it. It breaks. The Democrats fix it. Trump wants to start it all over again. If we can’t break the pattern here, let’s look at the next step. President Obama made the same mistake with the bankers that Flounder made with the brothers of Animal House: He trusted them. Perhaps President Duckworth or President Harris or whoever will learn from history.

Thanx to Charles P. Pierce.

obBitter: We learn from history. They are that definition of "insane" that believes that doing the same thing will yield different results. Hell, even a cat will learn not to touch a hot stove (or a cold one, but that's a different argument).

I suspect you're probably saying "simple childlike faith" with sarcasm, but I find it hard to believe that is a facet of any of the Republicans' motivations or beliefs. They know it will break when they deregulate, but they will make money for themselves and their benefactors before it breaks and after it breaks grabbing the pieces, just like always. Any future fines or regulations that may later be imposed if the Dem's get future control will only skim a little of what they make away with anyway, so why would they do otherwise?
