I guess I knew all along that, no matter who won, the country would be bitterly divided (split down the middle like a tuchus, as a friend of my mother’s would say), and now I’m on the resistance side. As Radley Balko said, "Whatever Trump does or doesn't do in the next four years, we've learned a lot about white America tonight. And it's depressing as hell." To the millions of mean, stupid white people who voted for Trump, don’t come crying to me when he treats you the way he treated the people who trusted him to pay them.

I am not yet convinced that Trump is a fascist, but he is looking more and more like one every day. Yet I don't think most people who supported him did so out of stupidity, intolerance, or narrow-mindedness; rather, they do not feel the Democratic Party has done much for them for the last couple decades, and along came Trump making isolationist and America-first noises that made him sound like he cares for working Americans.

Unfortunately, I don't think Trump can do anything to improve the prospects of working people unless he follows the path of Hitler: government-funded infrastructure projects, mass conscription, rearmament, and, ultimately, war.
