I've come to believe that it was only a world war because of European colonialism; being truly the last civil war in a conflict that would dwarf Joe Haldeman's Forever War.

I've also come to believe that it killed European civilisation as it was known; it just hasn't died yet, and the 'great' powers are killing millions in their denial of their own deaths.
