The lj cut is a really nifty thing for posts more than a screen long.

We need an auto-cutter. I don't like to cut because it's an extra step and writing takes me long enough. A lot of people on my RL don't cut, either. And I'm thinking they shouldn't have to. If you want to see cuts then there should be a setting on your (the reader's) end to trigger it after so many words (like in Customize Options, it says something like: "Cut posts longer than ___" with a blank space allowing you to choose any post over so many words, but otherwise open to your personal choice.

I don't like scrolling though my RL's more long-winded uncut posts, either, because it wastes time, but so does pausing while I'm writing to figure out 1) if I should cut a post, 2) after how many words/sentences/paragraphs I should cut it, 3) how or even if I should word the cut or if I should let uncommunicative dotdotdots serve as a placeholder for all my cut text, and then finally, 4) add in the pseudo-HTML for the cut(s) (4a) make sure the pseudo-HTML does not explode on contact with my preview page because I am always extremely bad at writing/remembering how to write LJ's HTML).

Just, yeah. I should post a formal suggestion about this, since it does get me a bit hot under the collar. I don't feel writers should have to be formatters. If I'm writing, then I'm writing. Don't ask me to read minds and style the text accordingly for whoever might read it, as well.
