For many years I have watched the stores and businesses of my youth fall prey to the antisocial Darwinism by which corporations thrive. A & P was old when I was born, and it survived as many of its grocery brethren fell, but now it too is on the way out. Around here the chain that it is replacing many of its stores is called Acme. The Church of the SuperGenius views with alarm.

Interesting. Since Acme-the-store-chain went bye-bye sometime in the '70s.

(Speaking of which, the Pathmark the family has shopped at since Time Immemorial the '70s through thick, thin, and blizzard is being closed and reopened as a Stop and Shop. I should ask how that's going.)

I strongly advise avoiding the purchase of mechanical/electrical devices there, as well as any explosives they may have to offer...
