The Republican Primary Reality Show appears to have an opening for a candidate who meets Lenny Bruce's classic version of diminished expectations: "Vote for me. I don't wet the bed." Gov. John Kasich may be such a candidate.
If the conservative vote splits among several candidates, that might open a path for someone like Kasich. His chance of winning the White House would then depend on the level of Democratic enthusiasm for Hillary, assuming she's the nominee. If Hillary fails to pull in Democrats disillusioned by President Obama's failure to deliver on his promises, then Kasich would win.
I therefore don't agree that he has no chance. This early in the game, polls are meaningless, most Americans aren't paying attention, and pretty much anything is possible.
