BB and I have talked about this, now that the FDA has changed the painkiller we both must take to a schedule 2 painkiller, and speculated that this is the sort of thing that would happen once prosecutors and others convinced the bureaucrats to tighten laws and regulations. Idiots. I note that the Atlantic article states that heroin ODs have tripled, whilst the drop in prescription pain med ODs has definitely not been commensurate, which doesn't surprise me in the least.
(As for the changes people like us have to deal with, our painkiller now requires us to have to sign a totally humiliating and infantilizing "agreement" with the health care provider, allowing them to spring drug tests on us; we'll have to go to the doctor for every refill; the doctor can't simply call one in - so there's a significantly higher cost to us just to stay out of pain. I could go on and on about it, but I won't. I haven't yet had to sign the godawful agreement, because I'm still on the last legs of my old prescription, but I can tell you I am dreading having to do it.
