Yup, what he said at the end--it's the patronage system--unpaid internships are mainly the equivalent of the aristocracy sending their kids to be courtiers and ladies-in-waiting at the palace. As has been the case in academia and Congress, corporatization and the patronage system go so nicely together to sure up class boundaries, and private corps want that cocktail, too.
