He was a brilliant and gifted man in so many ways, an extraordinarily hard worker, and a member of two of my tribes; fandom, and union brotherhood. He was a member in good standing of the Chicago Newspaper Guild, my local. He worked for the same owners under who I labor, and he wasn't afraid of tearing them new ones, or standing up to them with us, and this piece recalls.
