Balls to David Brooks

Baseball is an attractive nuisance. Perhaps because it proceeds so slowly and gives people lots of time to think, those who are tempted to that sort of mentation produce theories that it is the only way to understand America, that time begins on Opening Day, and worse and worse. The international standard Horrible Example is George Will, but there are many more. Of course David Brooks is one of them, and in reply to his latest effusion Charles P. Pierce points at him and laughs derisively, as one can never do too often to Our Mr. Brooks.

  1. You know, I don't go around saying that football, basketball, and hockey are for people with short attention spans. (Note: I don't actually think so.) That turkeys with labyrinthine thought processes are attracted to baseball is not the fault of baseball any more than brawling baboons being drawn to football is football's fault. At least, I hope so.
  2. Brooks is Canadian? What, did they throw him out?
  3. Brooks is a METS FAN????? HOW DARE HE????? Damn, now I'm glad I switched allegiances when I moved here. Yyyyyyyyyeeeeeuuuuucccchhhhhhhhhhh!
  4. I'm covered with Lapsang Souchong-flavored treacle just from reading the excerpts. Icky sticky.
  5. Pierce is funny and spot on.

I wish Zombie Howard Cosell would eat Brooks' brain. That much less bad writing in the world.
