I grew up Freudian, and one of the unquestioned assumptions of my cradle religion was that, no matter what they say, everybody really really wants sex of some sort. When I lost the faith, that was one of the first beliefs to go. Here is a sensible discussion of a man who has refrained from sex and appears perfectly happy that way, and how his existence bothers some people.

Catholic clerical celibacy has lasted a long time, and it seems plausible to me that one reason for its survival is that along with the ones who fake it, the ones who miserably fight it, and the ones who convince themselves that small boys don't count, there are a number of people for whom this requirement of the job comfortably fits their natural orientation.
