Wasn't The New Republic supposed to be a reasonable voice of the Establishment?

But, frankly, Muslim life is cheap, most notably to Muslims. And among those Muslims led by the Imam Rauf there is hardly one who has raised a fuss about the routine and random bloodshed that defines their brotherhood. So, yes, I wonder whether I need honor these people and pretend that they are worthy of the privileges of the First Amendment which I have in my gut the sense that they will abuse.

Reminding me of why I let my subscription lapse about 20 years ago.

I remember when it was left of center. Though not nearly as far left as Commentary.

I also remember when the New York Post was farthest left of NYC's dailies.

Peretz hates not being the only person allowed to abuse his First Amendment rights.

I canceled my TNR subscription several years ago when they ran an article about how Israel is better than Palestine because gays in Palestine face execution, but if they flee to Israel they can become prostitutes. It even had an interview with an Israeli pimp about how good he is to his boys.

I'm much more concerned about people who abuse their freedom of the press. How meaningful is freedom of the press when the media seem to be dominated by people like this guy who seem take their cues from Joseph Goebbels?
