The Electoral College isn’t enough

Scott Walker says in outside voice that rural votes should count more than urban ones. Obviously, empty space should be represented because that’s what’s in the heads of most of his voters. [Crooks & Liars]

Canada doesn't have an electoral college, but the assumption re: rural vs. urban votes seems to have been somewhat baked into our own election systems.

It's the rural vote that keeps the likes of Erdogan in Turkey and the Mullahs in Iran in power, so...........

Walker's party, the Republicans, gerrymandered all of Wisconsin heavily in their favor. The entire population balances very slightly to Democratic, but 2/3 of the state legislators are Republican. Fortunately, the governor's race is statewide, so the majority kicked Scott Walker to the kerb in last year's election. [insert further rants here]

And meanwhile on this side of the big pond, people are going to be insane enough to elect Boris Johnson as PM.

A tiny minority of people who belong to only one political party and paid for the right to vote...............
