I think I ranted a few years back about the private health insurance company which wanted to charge me massive premiums (well above the usual extortionate rate) because I disclosed that I had just had my routine, NHS provided, female-parts cancer screening, that one gets alerts for every few years, and that it had come back all clear, but apparently just taking this proper precaution that a beneficent welfare state exhorts one to whacks up the cost of insurance. Presumably because they might find something and one would become a charge...
I think they finally conceded that routine tests were not the same as 'doctor recently sent me for tests' and came down somewhat on the price but by that time I was pissed off enough not to care - the only reason I was even considering it was it was the company that had been providing the free private healthcare package at my workplace, which was actually useful for things like physiotherapy, and also paid a certain amount towards dental treatment. But on the whole, I think the money is better going into a contingency emergency fund of my own.
