Don't get me going on this, especially at this time of year!

I posted this on my Twitter in time for Readercon ops to see it, and they've informed me that they've fixed the situation and every panel will take place behind a table with a curtain going down to the floor so that skirt-wearing panelists are comfortable.

VICTORY.

That's why those panels on desk fronts were known as 'modesty panels' so it's hardly a novel problem!

They didn't have tables for some of the panels, they had armchairs. On daises, raising the seat of the armchair to seated audience eye level. For at least the last two years, which is as long as I've been to Readercon. And I don't have that many long skirts for summer, so...I spent a lot of panel time focused on clamping my knees together and hoping for the best, or else draping a hoodie over my lap so I could worry slightly less about it.

BUT NO LONGER.

Oh. Right. Forgot about that. (It's been years, and I forgot about the Dick Cavett-style seating.)

Hooray!
