OTOH, in some ways what I really want is a tool that records all ads sent to me, tabulates them by vendor, with some indication of the annoyance factor. Then when I'm looking to purchase something, I determine the real manufacturer, and the real retail chain (not the brand, but the owner) of each product meeting whatever need, and pick the one that's wasted the least amount of my time.
If the tool were really sophisticated, it could work out a $$ cost for each type of time waster, and suggest the amount of discount over a non-intrusive vendor that one should require in order to buy from them. Except of course that too often, purchasing from someone encourages more spam, so the past is not a sufficient guide.
As an example, only 2 ISPS have ever spammed me: Comcast and ATT. Guess which ISPs I avoid using :-(

Unfortunately it's a very long queue.
