I have feared that I was living in dystopian satire ever since I was a small child at Harrison Bergeron Elementary School. Now it seems like it may be The Handmaid’s Tale. Legislators in several states are trying to make abortion a crime punishable by 99 years in prison.
The title comes from Gilbert & Sullivan. One of the many offensive aspects of the crusade is the sheer ignorance of some of its sponsors. Republican idiots (but I repeat myself) believe that a truly virtuous woman will not allow herself to become pregnant from rape and that ectopic pregnancy can be cured by removing the fetus and sticking it back where it belongs, Jesus wept. [The Mary Sue]
