Before The Joy of Sex

An ABZ of Love was a charming 60s book (originally in Danish) promoting a sane view of sex. It needed to say that “a masculine woman is not necessarily homosexual, and a homosexual woman is not necessarily masculine” and a few of the line drawings (sex positions, a man with an erection) were considered unfit to print in the original American edition. I enjoyed it at the time and like this retrospective look at it.

Karl Rove panders to the substantial element of his constituency that believes Barack Obama is disqualified for the presidency by being born in Hawaii. Brought back memories. My unChristian family of origin (Jewish mother, recovering Catholic father) would answer the phone on 12/25 with “Merry Christmas,” but one year we heard “Mele Kalikimaka” (as a phrase, not a song), thought it was cute, and said that instead.
