70 years ago today, my younger sister, Eve, was born. She was a lawyer and then worked for Good Causes, and was good at those. Inspired by our parents' eminently successful marriage, she married someone good for her first try, as I did. She and Joe Cimmet had three wonderful children: Brian, Alison, and Stephanie.

In her sixties she was attacked by cellular life on its own terms. She fought hard, but succumbed in 2010, leaving many who had loved and been helped by her. There is an old bit of newage to the effect that those who get cancer are those who did not love life and the world enough. That's not how it worked in my family.

Excited delirium coincidentally strikes those who are being Tased, hogtied, or otherwise restrained by the police. For some reason, it is considered more credible by police than by doctors.

Thanx to Avedon's Sideshow.

Niall Ferguson does not like fact checking.
Committing the odd factual error is an occupational hazard in journalism. For Niall Ferguson, the commission of error is more than a hazard. It’s a cherished way of life
