[livejournal.com profile] nellorat ran afoul of one of those tiresome sorts who insist on repeatedly passing verbiage upon anyone who says a good word for religion. When she posted about him, she called him an atheist, but I considered that unfair to the many atheists who mind their own business, so I suggested the term theophobe.

I thought about that a bit more. As we all know, many homophobes (though probably not all) are seriously tempted by what they condemn, and every few months there's a news story about one of them giving in. Theophobia generally doesn't work like that, but wouldn't it be a hoot if someone like Richard Dawkins were photographed sneaking into a high mass?

Science fiction is a Fabulous Invalid, and one of the times it died was 1960. Earl Kemp conducted an inquest, called "Who Killed Science Fiction?" It's been reprinted, and Bud Webster reviews it.
