Reviewing the audience

There's actually something worse than that: a category being judged by its audience, or more precisely by the critic's image of its audience. The classic examples are soap opera (can't be good, appeals to housewives) and country music (can't be good, appeals to rednecks). Now we have can't be good, appeals to nerds.
