Technological fix

I'm an old-fashioned sci-fi guy who has always dreamed of technology beating politics. That is, ingenious people (they didn't have to be white guys) would invent things so clever that they would make the world better for all of us in ways that could not be loused up by power-mad politicians, bungling bureaucrats, meddling moralists, privileged pigs, or marching morons.

It is of course more complicated than that. But we may be on the verge of one of the victories I have long dreamed of, the time when women's ownership of their own bodies has been permanently rescued from politics. Soon a woman who wants an abortion will not have to go to a clinic that is vulnerable to government oppression and Kill for Life terrorism. Instead, she can take a single pill that at worst will be as hard to obtain as a vial of crack. The International Pedophile Ring, the fundamentalists of all faiths, and all those who believe it essential for Us to outbreed Them will be powerless to stop her.
