In a Spider Robinson story, a hit man wears funny-looking shoes when working so that the witnesses will notice and remember those rather than anything useful in identifying him. The media are similarly distractible. A creep repeatedly e-mailed a female coworker with sexual hints, pawed her at least once, and generally made her life unpleasant, finally being fired for it. One tediously repeated joke in the e-mails came from Seinfeld, so the headline read, "'Seinfeld' joke gets man canned for harassment." No. Being a persistent asshole gets man canned for harassment.
