The literacy of the Bible

To my surprise and delight, the state of Texas has decided that its Board of Education should not be led by someone who thinks that the Bible is a science textbook. There are still some legislators who reacted in more predictable fashion, like the one who said,

If we vote against Dr. McLeroy, the perception among many Texans will be that if you are a conservative and believe in the infallibility and literacy of the Bible, there is no need to apply to be on the State Board of Education.
