The Religious Right is offended that President Obama did not have a public ceremony for National Day of Prayer. Here is one opinion of that sort of thing.
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly--Matthew 6:5-6

Jon Carroll, who might be expected to know better, wants to make the word unique boring and pointless. That is, he insists that either a thing is unique or it isn't, and there are no degrees, no more unique or very unique.

The trouble with that is that everything is unique, if looked at closely enough, and if we want the word to be useful at all, we should consider things being more unique because they are unique in interesting ways. But excuse me, I gotta go poop one or more unique turds.
