I had a guy mansplain to me about how I couldn't possibly be a military historian because I'm a 'girl' (and this with an MA in military history, you understand). This after I'd just got back from shooting black powder weapons at a re-enactment. I also told him that I'd shot with the English longbow in the past.
This was fun. Rebecca Solnit has an anecdote in Men Explain Things to Me where the guy told her about this great book on Edweard Muybridge, and her friend said, "She wrote that book" and the guy said, "No, I'm sure that's wrong" (based on a review of ... her book).
