Question and answer

The article is entitled “‘Star Wars’ vs. ‘Star Trek’: Why ‘Star Trek’ is Losing.”

It says, “While Star Trek is firmly rooted in science fiction where the ideas and technology is extrapolated from our world, Star Wars is strictly sci-fi fantasy.”

Plus it's comparing apples with oranges. Star Trek remains, in essence, a TV show with spin off movies, Star Wars was always meant to be a big budget movie spectacular.

The only evidence presented that Star Wars is winning is that SW has taken more in all time box office receipts than ST. So?

I've never been a massive fan of either, I haven't gotten around to seeing either of the recent films, but I am looking forward to the new Trek TV show and will undoubtedly watch it as soon as Netflix UK puts it on. Given that it's already paid for itself in overseas sales before they've even broadcast a single episode I'd say that's a success.
