And Cheeses! At a 70s Milford conference a new writer named Gustav Hasford brought in a work of military sf. Pohl suggested he redo it as mimetic fiction. He did so and called it <i>The Short-Timers</i>, and in his editorial role, Pohl bought it for Bantam.
