OK, I've got to stop thinking of America's heartland as an undifferentiated flyover mass sprinkled with cities. So what is it with South Dakota anyway? There's that law I was talking about yesterday. (Now they're saying it's not intended to declare open season on abortionists, but merely to state that repeatedly punching a woman in the stomach is a Bad Thing if it is done to cause an abortion.) And they are represented (accurately) by Kristi Noem, who has said, "A lot of us freshmen don’t have a whole lot of knowledge about how Washington, D.C., is operated, and, frankly, we don’t really care."
