The author seems naive - as if he's only just noticing the natural effect of the DMCA.

I got screwed by a game vendor that demanded the ability to (a) check my ownership every time I played and (b) force updates whenever ownership was checked. The new improved version doesn't work on my elderly hardware.

After investigation, I determined that there were no games being *sold* - they all were forcing updates etc. in the guise of protecting their "intellectual property", and thus are worth no more to me than cell phone apps, which have always had this misfeature.

I no longer buy games.
