Moon landing

On this date in 1969, we took a great leap for mankind. And then we punked out. If I believed in collective guilt, I would say that we as a species deserve to be imprisoned in an environment until we inevitably die of it.

I hate the punking out on exploring, but I argue with my brother on space colonization, because I don't want us to have an out until we learn how to clean up after our messes on this planet. I hope we don't get the skills to just go mess up someone else's planet before we figure out how to live more environmentally friendly on this one. I'm not suggesting an either/or between funding the space program and the environment because the space program helps us come up with technology that aids environmental science, but it's all moot since the funding all goes to the military instead.

If there are other beings in the universe nearby, that might be a blessing for them.

I do believe it's possible for us to learn to behave more respectfully toward our environment--I have no idea if we'll achieve that possibility. I hope without expectations.
